Program Descriptions


On Wednesday, April 20th, we will kick off our 25th Anniversary Convention with a special “Early Bird Tour” of the Hughes School in Cincinnati for those members arriving early. The school is located less than three miles from the hotel. Built in 1908, it houses a variety of pottery works, including 12 Fountains by Rookwood, bar relief throughout the entire first floor, murals, a library with stellar stained glass windows, friezes and more. The exterior is adorned with terra cotta tile work and numerous Gargoyles and Grotesques. The Alumni of Hughes will conduct this nearly hour-long tour. There are many stairs, so please consider this when deciding to attend. This tour is limited to 30 members, so please indicate whether you will attend on your registration form. We will fill the tour by postmark of your registration packet. We will have a map available, along with a basic guide to the Hughes School. Members will be responsible for their own transportation. The tour is free of charge to our members.



On Wednesday, April 20th, there will be a cash bar cocktail party from 6:00 – 7:30 PM at the hotel. The banquet buffet will be begin at 7:30 PM. The price per person is $40.00. Our keynote speaker will be Anita Ellis of the Cincinnati Art Museum. Her presentation is entitled “The Dueling Divas of Cincinnati Ceramics”. The “Dueling Divas” of Cincinnati Ceramics are two seminal figures in the history of American ceramics. Always hot, often boiling, their tempestuous relationship fueled their competition resulting in some of the finest American ceramics in this Nation’s history. Mary Louise McLaughlin and Maria Longworth Nichols Storer, each made inestimable contributions to the advancement of ceramics and helped ensure that the story of American art pottery begins in Cincinnati.


On Thursday, April 21st, members will have the opportunity to take a full day tour of the Cincinnati area. The buses will begin loading at the hotel at 7:45 AM, leaving promptly at 8:00 AM. We will visit several sites as outlined below. The buses will leave us at our last stop, Cincinnati Art Galleries at about 4:30 PM. Members will walk the three blocks back to the hotel, arriving there about 6 PM. Cost per person for the tour, which includes lunch and admissions, is $40.00.

Treadway Gallery (TG): We will view a collection of fine pottery and preview TG’s June auction offerings while enjoying morning refreshments. (
