Chinese FAKE of Roseville "PINECONE" vase, sold on eBay March 30, 2005 for $152.50.  Buyer Beware!!

If you see a fake on eBay, report it!

  • Should not be high glaze.
  • Color, while close, is wrong
  • Branch handles poorly detailed
  • Pinecone is poorly defined, even for the worst mold on an original Rv vase
  • Original Pinecone design sits slightly higher and nearer to top of vase
  • Mark on bottom is fake, Rv original incised mark is smaller and commonly hard to see at first blush

Chinese FAKE of Roseville "Woodland" vase, on "Pauleo" blank.

  • Should not be high glaze.
  • Should not have gold rim.
  • Stippling should be incised into piece, not pebbly on exterior
  • Flower is too low on vase.
  • Real vase is more slender.

For the genuine item, see Plate 16 (center), Page 45 of "The Collectors Encyclopedia of Roseville, First Series," Sharon & Bob Huxford, Collectors Books, 1984

Mark on above vase.

  • Genuine mark is less oval; "Roseville" and "Pottery" form a circle, not an oval.

For the genuine mark, see Mark 13, Page 26 of "The Collectors Encyclopedia of Roseville, First Series," Sharon & Bob Huxford, Collectors Books, 1984

Chinese FAKE of Roseville "Panel" Nude Wall Pocket

  • Never made in this color.

Meant to be Mark #9, ibid.

1960/70 Japanese FAKE Of Roseville "Laurel"
(At left) - No marks. (The genuine item was not marked either.)

  • Colors not right.
  • Clay is wrong.

Too light in weight, but far better than repros being made today.

At right: "I wanted to send you a picture of the vase I just bought at a local flea market for $5....high gloss maroon color. Again, the clay is not right (much whiter) and it is somewhat lighter in weight than what a piece 8.5" high, as this one is, would weigh if made of typical Roseville clay." - from Carol at cthulhu@ot.com (7/2/99)
