American Art Pottery: From Rookwood To Weller

October 7, 2006 -  Indefinite - New Permanent Collection

Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art

Nashville, TN

http://www.cheekwood.org/art.html/museum_exhibitions

Dr. Richard and Molly Schneider have generously gifted 27 fine examples of American Art Pottery from their collection to Cheekwood.  The collection provides a cross section of the decorative arts genre known as American Art Pottery and includes pieces produced by the companies of Weller, Tiffany and Newcomb, Fulper, and Rookwood.  The majority of the pieces were produced by Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati.

During its years of operation from 1880 through 1967, Rookwood Pottery was one of the most important pottery businesses in the nation.   Rookwood advanced the art and science of painting and glazing techniques, and its best pieces were decorated by a handful of skillful painters.

"This Cheekwood gift consists of many exquisite examples of vases decorated with flower motifs dating from the last two decades of the Nineteenth Century through the early Twentieth century."

Pottery Lover's Show & Sale

July 19-20, 2008

Pritchard Laughlin Convention Center, Cambridge, OH

Pottery Week begins informally the week before the 'official' opening date.  Dealers will begin arriving in town to show and sell their pots around July 10th.  It is hard to frame the locations as many dealers set up in the different motels/hotels and in open lots as well.  The formal festivities begin with 'Pottery Lover's opening events on Monday, July 14th.  Check their website at www.PotteryLovers.org. "Featured as 'The Greatest Pottery Show' on earth!"  This show always brings out unknown treasure and hidden beauties.  If you have not experienced 'Zanesville', you owe it to yourself to see it live!  Come for a few days, or stay for the entire two weeks.  You will have a grande time!
