Scholarship
Program

The American Art Pottery Association supports an
Annual Scholarship Program, whereby students who plan to further their education in the field of Ceramics may do so.

1998 Scholarship Award

In 1998, the AAPA Scholarship was awarded to students of North Carolina State University at Raleigh.

Jeremie McGowan, recipient of the 1998 award, a senior in Art & Design, worked as a research intern at the Gallery of Art & Design, traveling throughout his home state of North Carolina, researching the history of North Carolina pottery. His article (with Neal Robbins), The Myth of North Carolina Ceramics: North Carolina Art Pottery, appeared in the May-June issue of the Journal of the American Art Pottery Association.

In 1999, $1,000 scholarships were given to two community college students from the Dallas, Texas area. One allowed a student to attend the summer ceramics program at New York's Alfred University.

At the 2000 Annual Convention, AAPA members viewed representative work of applicants for the 2000 schoalrship, and voted the award of two $1,000 scholarships; one to Lana Johnson from Gustavus Adolphus College; the other to Aaron Sober from Macalester College.

Based on very positive response to the Scholarship Program, the Association anticipates expanding the program to other areas of the country as permitted.
